Nanao Ise was drowning in paperwork and headaches. How in the world did the world’s laziest division accumulate so much paperwork? It just didn’t make sense. Sighing a little more forcefully Nanao turned her thoughts to work - read, initial, comment, revise, sign, stack - it was a litany she lost herself in…until a loud bang and rattle drew her from that particular comfort.
Looking up Nanao was not surprised in the least to see Kyouraku Taicho grinning madly under his stupid straw hat and covered by his ridiculous pink haori - frustrated? Yes! On top of her finished paperwork was a tea set, making the whole working cycle quite difficult, but the fact that it was green tea didn’t escape her notice. Nanao completely, absolutely, adored green tea; one could say it was a similar love Kyouraku held for sake, but less destructive. It certainly was her weakness.
But still she tried to glare him away, just for the principle of the matter, she couldn’t very well have him tempting her with green tea every time he wanted to get into her good graces could she? Absolutely not. But as usual the infuriating man completely ignored her glare; years of being subjected to it had made him immune.
“Yes Kyouraku Taicho?” Nanao tried to sound as icy as possible, but wasn’t as successful as she’d like to have been. After all, she really did love green tea, and if her wanted to be annoying he would have brought sake, and that would have had him tossed out on his ear. And just as she expected he stern glare not to work, he responded in a comfortingly familiar way: his puppy dog eyes.
“My darling Nanao-chan works to hard!” he whimpered dramatically. Nanao let out another sigh, this time with a small hidden seed of amusement in her, scolding him when he was like this was like rubbing a puppy’s nose in the ground for barking too much. Puppy’s by nature bark, and Shunsui by nature cares, albeit in a rather odd way sometimes.
It really was times like these that made the ice around her heart melt a little, and it put Nanao instantly on guard. He could break her heart so easily if she ever gave him the chance. No, it was better to never give him the chance, he was never faithful to any woman, why would he be different with her?
All Shunsui wanted to do was make up for being lazy to his Nanao-chan (and make no mistake, she was his Nanao-chan). Okay, he also wanted to peek, but really, his first priority was that he wanted to help! And since he knew he’d never, ever, do paperwork, taking care of his darling Nanao-chan was what he focused on.
Shunsui gave a stern talking to his inner-self, putting it back on track as it peeked at his lovely Nanao-chan doing paperwork. She didn’t have a stern look on her face he discovered, she looked almost happy. That was good. He liked his Nanao-chan happy. He always tried so hard to make his sweet (in the sour sort of way) Nanao-chan happy, but she never appreciated him!
It reminded him of that book he was reading, the one that he saw Nanao reading, Itsumo means Forever. The main character was a dashingly handsome man like himself, who chased around his beautiful and striking love, much like his perfect Nanao-chan.
He remembered Matsumoto saying it was romantic and gushing about it, so he was floored when he saw Nanao sneaking off to read it. So of course he followed…and then ran to the library to get his own copy, but his Nanao-chan reads so fast! He has a hard time keeping up with her, so now instead of napping he slips it into his favorite book’s cover, Ichi Ichi Paradise, and reads it when beautiful, flawless Nanao does paperwork. But he is careful to never pass the page where Nanao is, he’d hate to be ahead of her, he liked lagging behind her in general, it lets him admire her from a safe distance.
Bursting in Shunsui happily banged down the tray he was carrying on her desk, he didn’t really think where was very important. It was paper, paper soaks up spills right? See, it was a perfect place. His utterly gorgeous Nanao-chan didn’t seem so happy though. She had that glare instead of a smile.
Oh, woe was him…would he ever make his goddess Nanao-chan happy?!? If not, certainly his life was worthless, but still he perked up, she hadn’t smacked him yet. - could it be she was slowly thawing under his, ahem, constant heat? That thought made him giggle inside, an perhaps it made him look a little mad.
He heard from Matsumoto, when she was drunk of course, that the way to his stunning Nanao-chan’s heart was green tea. She wasn’t supposed to be able to resist it. It meant that maybe he could please his amazingly picturesque Nanao-chan!
“Yes, Kyouraku?” He tried not to let a crestfallen expression take over his face, she didn’t outright reject him, and she did seem to be eyeing the tea. If only he could be green tea…ah well, he’d think of something…a green tea bath? Hmmm….
Giving her his best puppy eyes he tried to convince her of his devotion to her loveliness that knew no bounds.
“My darling Nanao-chan works too hard!” Shunsui let his lip quiver completing the whole whimpering package and practically felt the sigh that escaped his gloriously beautiful Nanao-chan’s mouth. Yes! He was getting somewhere! Perhaps she wouldn’t smack him? That was moving forward right? Just in little baby steps…
